Players earn more points by creating longer words or words which use less common letters and earn less for smaller words. As words are formed, they are removed from the grid and the remaining letters collapse to fill the available space. From a grid of available letters, players connect letters to form words. SO, if this is yours, please let me know!! I found some nakey websites (EW!) but I never found the original blog. I tried clicking around yesterday afternoon to find the source of this fabulousness. The kids and I have been singing this for two weeks and they LOVE it! They have even asked for copies for their Super Skills Journals. So I made one!Ĭlick to download from Google Drive (color and b&w) I found an adjective song on Pinterest, but there wasn’t a printable option. I have 2 more versions I’ll upload soon to my stores – a winter edition and a February edition as well. ![]() I added this step because I want them to remember the stronger adjectives they heard and saw – especially during Writers Workshop! If they were in charge of the noun card, they simply mark a line through the “my adjective” column for that round. Everyone else in the group writes it down. ![]() The student who wins the round puts a “check mark” under the winning adjective column. However, because we work with such a large ESOL population and our inclusion students are all very visual, we needed something a little different. We have played this several times during the last couple of weeks and my kids LOVE it!!ĭuring our planning one afternoon, we talked about playing a well-known fruity describing game with the kids. Later in the week, we played a new game to reinforce forming and using adjectives correctly. I hope you’ll click on over to check it out. This was just one of the “new additions” I put into the unit. It was a hit! I even had one parent email me and tell me how much fun her child had walking around their apartment looking for “the best” nouns. That night, they repeated the activity for homework (with the one-color-word-rule still in place). Use the anchor chart and your brain to come up with other adjectives that are more creative.” You may only use ONE color word as an adjective on this entire sheet. “So why am I only seeing color words on your recording sheets?” “Are color words the only kind of adjectives?” I noticed during the work period that many of the kids were just using color words. ![]() I work in a school with a high ESOL population (around 70%) so I try to do as much scaffolding as possible. I didn’t introduce adjectives before we left for our “hunt” because I wanted the information fresh on their minds as they sat down to write. After we created our anchor chart, I asked the kids to come up with adjectives for each of the nouns they found.

![]() ![]() ![]() Almost immediately, a power dynamic has been set about ownership and dominance, and this is the overarching goal of the Yonyx. The humans walk like dogs, wear tails, and bark and snarl at each other on the street. The opening scene of Bigbug truly sets the stage for what is to come: the television show shows androids keeping humans as literal pets. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? But all good things are only fleeting when a traffic jam marks the start of an android revolution.Ī group of androids, who have dubbed themselves the Yonyx (all portrayed by François Levental), were previously introduced through a television show playing in the background of the group’s chatter. French suburbia now boasts an assortment of pastel-colored cookie-cutter homes, perfectly manicured lawns, greenhouses inside living rooms, and televisions that appear like holograms. These androids can speak, detect emotion with a single look, determine a human’s intention, and have enhanced speed and power. In the world of Bigbug, the year is 2045, and most humans have delegated their everyday tasks over to androids. It subverts expectations from movies with similar storylines and concepts, creating a unique visual experience that is also thought-provoking. Netflix’s release of Bigbug is the movie that resulted from this concept. Steven Soderbergh’s recent release Kimi touches upon the potential impacts of one’s invaded privacy through technology and corporate greed, but Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the mastermind behind the renowned Amélie, has followed up with his take on a futuristic world where machines want to be understood. This is creating a system where if the technology was taken away, humans would not be capable of living efficiently. Human reliance on technology has heavily increased during the past decade. Technology has become a crutch for humanity. It is predicted that the market for virtual assistants will grow from $2.2 billion in 2018 to $11.3 billion in 2024. The story of humans versus androids seems almost cliché at this point, a fear that only continues to grow as technological capabilities increase and the concept of robots in the home slowly becomes less novel and foreign to everyday consumers. When you install Grammarly on macOS it disables the system-wide spell checker service called AppleSpell in your system processes. A note about uninstalling Grammarly on macOS and the disabled AppleSpell I also decided it might not be a bad thing to be a little less reliant on software for something my brain should naturally be getting better at doing. Hopefully they fix it someday.įor me? I decided the system spell check works fine in random text boxes, and if I want to use the service to check longer pieces of writing I’ll do it in a browser tab inside their editor before copying/pasting it into or out of something else. Which isn’t surprising given how hostile Grammarly has been to anything that isn’t Chrome. It seems clear this bug is with Grammarly and not necessarily Safari. In which case, I guess you might have to stick with Brave, Edge, Firefox, etc. You might not want to run a browser without Grammarly, too. But those sites are rare for me, despite living online all day every day. I know Safari isn’t for everyone or every site-I used a site the other day that wanted to use my camera and microphone and audio refused to work. Safari runs fast and with a solid ad blocker like 1Blocker or AdGuard installed, it’s efficient and I have no problems with WordPress’ Gutenberg editor or any other site I visit. Once I uninstalled Grammarly these problems evaporated. The result is a huge outlay in memory consumption, processing, and ultimately battery drain. This layout would be confusing since none of it is a complete sentence and the text appears disjointed from each subsequent block of text. In the graph image above, for instance, Grammarly would want to read all the dates, percentages, and button labels. The problem is this dramatically balloons the amount of text Grammarly has to parse. This text OCR service does not run in other browsers. But it was being rendered as text and I suspect Grammarly wanted to “read” it like it does all other text. It’s a handy way of copying text from a photo or getting a quick translation of a word. The system-wide function that works in Mail, Notes, Preview, and your iPhone camera is also in Safari and it reads the text of images. I’m not sure, but I think the problem might be with Safari’s new text OCR features that shipped in macOS Monterey. So what’s going on with the Grammarly plugin in Safari and its high resource usage? This also accounts for reboots, quitting apps, and using different browsers across this period. IStat memory pressure chart over the last 30 days, with significant drops in pressure after uninstalling Grammarly. The drop in memory pressure was noticeable after just one day, but here’s the graph after a few: I uninstalled Grammarly entirely from my Mac by removing both the plugin and the Mac app (which is really just a crummy electron web wrapper). Grammarly was the constant in all of them. plus, in Safari I ran 1Blocker, in Brave and other Chromium browsers I used uBlock. I narrowed the cause to Grammarly, which was the only constant between browsers and would often spike for a second or two in Activity Monitor’s processes usage. So I started tracking usage in Activity Monitor and memory pressure with iStat Menu. And I had the most noticeable problems on my Mac, but could sorta replicate this WordPress page/post editor performance in Safari on my iPad, which also had Grammarly installed. The only solution was to quit and re-open the browser, which is annoying since you get logged out of a lot of stuff.īrave didn’t have this, but still consumed more battery than Safari. Moving Gutenberg blocks and inserting or removing blocks in a WordPress site, something I do a lot, would, after a while, slow to a visible crawl in Safari. I got suspicious when I realized Brave and other Chromium browsers didn’t struggle with WordPress’ admin dashboard. The Grammarly plugin, which I had installed on all my browsers, was doing something to my MacBook Pro. I took it on gospel, then went to go try Brave, Firefox, and others for a while and came away thinking, “Something must be wrong with Safari.” ![]() But that was not what I found in months-years even-of use. And Safari on macOS certainly wins the award for most efficient in memory and battery usage. ![]() ![]() I, like so many others, am always trying to find “the best” browser. I’m posting this here for anyone that might be Googling around for some causes or solutions to problems using Safari on macOS. ![]() ![]() ![]() He’s clearly wanting to make this one more difficult, but I’m not sure whether he realized just how difficult he had made it by writing it out this way. In terms of trying to understand anything about the actual man himself who created that, the one thing you can say is that he sent in a cipher a couple of months previous to this one and it was solved within three or four days. And then Thursday, a week ago, we just started to piece it together. I got serious about it in March of this year, and we spent a lot of time on it between March and now, just going through, having no success, no success, no success. So I reached out to him originally through a YouTube comment, and then we got chatting, and it went from there. When I watched those, I thought “This is a really good analytical approach that he’s taken to try to solve this.” And I sort of saw a couple of things that I thought might be interesting for him to try. But one of the people I solved this with, David Oranchak, has been working on this cipher for 15 years, and one of the things he’s done to really popularize it and keep it in the interest people is he’s posted a number of videos on his efforts to solve the cipher. Some companies will offer to save you money by hauling the paper away for off-site shredding. What should you look for in a shredding company? First of all, choose a company that will shred your documents on-site. So, you will cut your expense in half while improving your document security and your staff morale! Over the course of a year, you will have 12-13 visits, or $540-$585. With a service like Proshred, you can expect to pay $45 per visit for a single console (that’s lunch money for security). In addition, a decent-quality paper shredder from Staples will set you back $150-$200, bringing the total bill to $1,100-$1,200 per year in shredding per year because the shredding machine usually breaks about once a year. At $18 per man-hour for an administrative employee, that’s $936 per year in labor, time better spent on more productive tasks. For the typical small office with 5-10 employees, you might expect to spend about one man-hour per week shredding paper. The shredded paper will be hauled away for recycling.ĭoes this sound more secure than an in-house system? It should. You will receive a certificate of destruction from the shredding company following the shredding (does your office shredder give you that?). Employees can deposit up to 400 sheets at a time through the slot in the top, and small fasteners need not be removed, which is a huge timesaver. The commonly-used console holds about 100 pounds of paper, which is equivalent to about four boxes of copy paper. With a professional shredding service like Proshred, you will receive a secure, lockable collection container like the one below, often at no charge. Moreover, most crimes of this type are inside jobs, meaning your own employees are the ones most likely to do the damage! Paper is easily transported and easily read. Keep in mind that most identity theft and corporate espionage still involves paper. Not very secure, right? If you’re a doctor, accountant, lawyer or other professional, would you want your clients seeing a box like that in your office? In the meantime, the documents are exposed, most likely in a container that looks like the one in the picture at the right. Result two is that the employee decides that he or she does not have enough time to do the job and leaves the documents to be shredded another day. Result one is that the shredding machine jams or overheats. If the job is of any size, there are two likely results. ![]() This is a painfully slow, mind-numbing process.
